Everyone has a memory of Chinese food, but few know the quiet revolution that happened behind the counters of Canada’s rural diners and city street corners. Sons & Daughters is a high-definition storytelling project built to preserve a vanishing legacy. We’ve stripped away the stereotypes to reveal the raw, human architecture of the Chinese-Canadian café—a place where food, family, and survival merged into a singular culinary identity. Experience the elegance of Culinary Adaptation. Sons & Daughters explores the ingenious ways these kitchens modified classic dishes for local palates, using what was available to create something entirely new. It’s a world where ginger beef meets the classic diner club sandwich, and where soy sauce sits comfortably next to a bottle of maple syrup. The project is built on the foundation of Oral History.
